Heyward-Washington House
The Heyward-Washington House is a historic house owned by The Charleston Museum. Various excavations of the workyard, stable area, kitchen area, privy, and areas around the main house, have been conducted over the years by Museum staff, Dr. Elaine Herold (1973-1976) and Martha Zierden (1991, 2002). The incredible array of artifacts found have provided a more comprehensive understanding of the people, both free and enslaved, who lived and labored at this site for nearly three centuries.
