Description:

Photograph of various boats anchored near the Ft. Sumter Hotel in the Ashley River. The spectators on board are watching swimmers, followed by their coaches in rowboats, compete in the Y.M.C.A. 2 1/2 mile race.

The race began at the Yacht Basin with entrants diving off the yacht "Dicksadee" and ended two and a half miles later at the Ashley River Bridge. George Burges of Charleston won this race with a time of 35:45.
