Each swimmer is followed by their coach boat for support. The "Dicksadee" was used as the starting and ending craft for the race.

The race began at the Yacht Basin with entrants diving off the "Dicksadee" and ended two and a half miles later at the Ashley River Bridge. George Burges of Charleston won this race with a time of 35:45 and accepted his trophy on the cabin cruiser.
