Currently on exhibit in the Armory at the Museum, this Winchester M 1866 (3rd model) rifle is most famous as "The Gun That Won The West". It is composed of a two-piece wood stock and either a steel or brass barrel with a rimfire cartridge action in a metal jacket. This weapon is the .44 caliber U.S. military version of the Winchester Carbine but was mostly used by foreign militaries.
