Uria aalge, Auk egg

Description:

A California murre (Uria aalge californica) egg collected from Castle Rock near Crescent City, California in May 1961. This egg was originally collected by L.T. Stevens who noted that incubation had begun. Stevens goes on to note that identification had been established by observing that the "bird walked away from egg, flapping wings." Additionally, Stevens notes that there were 5000 nesting pairs the area was "on top of island in rocks to prevent egg from rolling away. No nesting material at all." Later acquired by Ernest Cutts.
