Description:

Watercolor on paper illustrating a man sitting on the sand in the shade of a pier on a beach. The shady underside of the green pier is conveyed in navy and casts a purple shadow on the sand. The is wearing a hat and leans against a support pole in the lower left corner. A sign written in red which hangs below the pier cannot be read and another segment of the pier continues into the ocean. Ball utilizes both wet and dry brush techniques to evoke different textures. The sand, water, and shadow were conveyed using wet-in-wet techniques and the pier was conveyed using dry brush techniques.
