untitled (Shrimp Boats on Shem Creek)

Contact The Charleston Museum for image use and credit instructions.

Description:

Watercolor on paper of a waterscape featuring two shrimp boats on Shem Creek floating with their starboard sides together. Strong lines and outlines were used in this artwork, a common style for Ball. The fishing gear of one ship can hardly be distinguished from the fishing gear of the other. Great attention was paid to the shadows on the bow and stern of the boats on the left side of the image. The image takes up only a 5" X 8" region of the paper. Handwritten on the bottom right corner of the front of the paper it reads: "Shem Creek = May 1959."
