untitled (Lone Palmetto)

Description:

Watercolor on illustrator board of a beach landscape conveyed entirely using different shades of the same cool, navy hue. A lone palmetto tree on the embankment on the right casts a shadow on the sand and scattered grasses below. The objects in the foreground are depicted with thick application of pigment, while the background is faint. This painting is an example of the wet-in-wet technique, in which the pigment is applied to already wet paper causing the brush strokes to bleed together.
