Description:

Watercolor on paper of an unidentified, female dancer. Judging from the composition, the painting is likely a portrait. The woman is posed on a dark blue chair with one leg hanging over the side as the other leg rests on a white stool. She wears a dark leotard and white ballet shoes. Ball has applied the paint using a dry brush technique, in which the pigment is applied to dry areas of the paper bringing out the texture of the watercolor paper. Although there is blending on the leotard, most of the watercolor conveys minimal blending of strokes, as evidenced by the patches on the legs. The background and the leotard are conveyed in the same cool hued blue with the only other hues being warm hints of red in the yellow skin tone.
