Tornado of 1938

Description:

Sepia photograph of two large piles of brick and lumber that once made up the three-story house at 45 State Street. Two tornadoes struck the penninsula on the morning of September 29 with three additional twisters also hitting James Island, Sullivan's Island and the outlying areas.
Paine noted on reverse, "45 State St. after South Tornado. 9 Died in this. Total Collapse 8:07 am. Photo by Paine 9/29/38."
