Description:

This .50 caliber percussion lock Swiss-style target or "Schuetzen" rifle is currently on exhibit in the Armory at the Museum. The stock is made of walnut while the barrel, lock, trigger and action are steel and the trim brass. The rifle is oufitted with a false muzzle and bullet starter which contains its original ivory handpiece. Weighing twenty pounds, it was considered a highly specialized target weapon and was used at the Sch?tzenfest (or Marksman Festival).
