Soldiers Swimming

Description:

Black and white photograph of soldier in the nude, jumping into the water from the wharf as a group of spectators watch. Several of his fellow soldiers can be seen, heads only, watching from the water in front of a ship named the "J.S. Heyward." The soldiers were possibly part of the 12th Regiment Infantry, New York Volunteers, mustered into service during the Spanish-American War. It appears they stopped in Charleston on the way to Camp George H. Thomas in Georgia before shipping out to Cuba. See MK 7652 and MK 7654.
