Description:
1839 copper slave badge with chamfered corners currently on exhibit in First Hall stamped, "Servant No.1588". The "Servant" stamp is surrounded by a beaded border, a unique characteristic of the 1839 issue. This badge would have been worn by a slave who was hired out to work as a house servant, washer woman or maid.
