Deckled edge photograph of Prospect Hill Plantation on Edisto Island. Handwritten history by Jane Margaret (Simons) Middleton on reverse, "The Baynard House on Edisto. Built by William Grimball Baynard? Said to have been designed by same architect who designed the White House in Washington. Also designed the William Seabrook House on Edisto. The architect was James Hoban. He submitted a winning design. Built in 1790. Has some pretty intrinsic characteristic cornices. William Grimball Baynard, my great grandfather, was paralyzed before he died and he is said to have sat in a basement room and tapped a sink in the hearth before his death, at beginning of war."
