Description:

Natural steer powder horn with a sawtooth collar and an affixed wooden charger. A carved wooden ring surrounds the charger at the midpoint. This piece is intricately carved with maps and writings in all capital letters. The map of the city of Havana, Cuba appears at the inside slope of the horn face with three lines above the map that read, "The city of Havana Illuminated at the Embarkation of the British troops July the 7th 1763". Other markings include the names of several forts and military locations, "Shepherd's Battery", "Apostles Battery", and "Gunamaca [sic]" with the maker's mark of "Peter Beglee His Horn" carved near the base. The name Beglee appears three different times on the horn.
