Podilymbus podiceps, Grebe egg

Description:

One of five pied-billed grebe (Podilymbus podiceps podiceps, Linnaeus 1758) eggs collected from Magnolia Gardens in Charleston County, South Carolina (see CBE1802-CBE1806). Collector Ernest Cutts noted the eggs had been freshly laid at time of collection and the nest was composed of "... decayed vegetation and attached to stems of spike grass in large duck pond on Ashley River. Water about 3 feet deep."
