Podilymbus podiceps, Grebe egg

Description:

One of eight pied-billed grebe (Podilymbus podiceps podiceps, Linnaeus 1758) eggs collected from the Luther Marsh in Ontario, Canada (see CBE1770-CBE1777). Original collector, Robert Pickering noted the eggs had been freshly laid at time of collection and the nest was composed of "a floating mass of dead vegetation floating on two feet of water in cattails at edge of Luther Marsh." Later acquired by Ernest Cutts.
