Podilymbus podiceps, Grebe egg
Description:
One of seven pied-billed grebe (Podilymbus podiceps podiceps) eggs collected from Lake Mendota, in Madison, Wisconsin (see CBE1577-CBE1583). The original collector, Charles F. Carr noted these eggs had been freshly laid at time of collection and the nest was composed of "a mass of decayed vegetation among the rushes." Later acquired by Alexander Sprunt.
