Podiceps nigricollis, Grebe egg

Description:

One of five black-necked grebe (Podiceps nigricollis californicus) eggs collected from a small roadside pond near Clinton, British Columbia (see CBE1759-CBE1763). The original collector, W.S. Maquire, noted the incubation was "well commenced" and the nest was comprised of "a floating mass of water vegetation." Later acquired by Ernest Cutts.
