Photograph of the Paine family partaking in a picnic lunch on the banks of the French Broad River. Paine captured his family members around a picnic blanket covered in food items such as a roasted duck, hardboiled eggs and white bread. A straw basket, covered boxes and an "Armour Packing Co. White Label Pure Leaf Lard" metal pail are also visible and were more than likely used to pack and store the food. Photographer's notation on reverse, "A Fishing (?) Party on French Broad River. Asheville, N.C."
