Photograph of (from left) Margaret (Middleton) Rivers and Barbara (Bohlken) Ackerman at the keel laying ceremony for the USS L. Mendel Rivers. Mrs. Rivers was the wife of its namesake, Congressman L. Mendel Rivers, and Mrs. Ackerman was the wife of the president of Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company where the submarine was built. The image was removed from an old photograph album.
