Photograph of a young girl preparing to demonstrate the process of separating rice grains from their husks by threshing with a flail. A harvested pile of rice can be seen in front of her bare feet. Curry noted on reverse, " Beating rice."

The image was taken during the 18th annual meeting of the American Association of Museums which coincided with the 150th Anniversary of the founding of The Charleston Museum. Then Director, Laura Bragg arranged for tours of various sights and plantations around the Lowcountry for the AAM members and their spouses.
