Description:

Photograph of a man identified as Harlan Ingersoll Smith walking toward the photographer. Smith worked as the head of the archaeology division for the Geological Survey of Canada from 1911 to 1937. He was a pioneer in ethnographic film making and anthropolgical photography who also promoted museum education. The location was not identified but is presumed to be the Santee Gun Club.

The image was taken during the 18th annual meeting of the American Association of Museums which coincided with the 150th Anniversary of the founding of The Charleston Museum. Then Director, Laura Bragg arranged for tours of various sights and plantations around the Lowcountry for the AAM members and their spouses.
