Nathaniel Heyward

Description:

Daguerreotype of Nathaniel Heyward surrounded by a gold metal border. Handwritten notation written by Heyward's son-in-law, Charles Manigault on separate piece of paper reads, "Nathaniel Heyward, Esq.re, father of Mrs. Charles Manigault. Died 10th April 1851, Aged 85 years."

Charles Manigault married Elizabeth Heyward, the youngest child of Nathaniel and Henrietta Heyward. Manigault wrote of the image, "I regretted that he should leave us with no memento of his appearance in his old age & in the year 1845 I requested him to accompany me in my carriage to have his daguerotype [sic] taken."
