Description:

Photograph of Laura L. Weeks at her desk in the old Charleston Museum. She has turned to smile at the photographer. Weeks served as secretary to Director Paul Rea, until 1917, when she had to leave due to ill health.

A tribute published after her death in the March 1919 "Bulletin of The Charleston Museum" stated, "The Museum is saddened by the death of Miss Laura L. Weeks at her home in Maine on March 16, after a long illness. As secretary to the Director from 1909 till 1917 and as assistant Treasurer after the incorporation in 1915, Miss Weeks helped to carry the Museum through some of its most difficult periods and to build the foundation of its growing success.
As assistant secretary of the American Association of Museums during the same years, Miss Weeks maintained an intimate familiarity with museums and museum workers in all parts of the United States and devoted herself unstintedly to the upbuilding of their national organization. She will be mourned by hundreds of friends who have appreciated and admired her personal charm, her devotion to the cause she had at heart, and her high ambitions for its success.
Miss Weeks gave up her work in 1917 because of ill health and has since lived with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard J. Weeks, at North Vassalboro, Maine."
