Description:
Black and white photograph of the main entry north (front) elevation of the Morton Waring House located at 119 Broad Street.
Built c. 1803-1807 by wealthy factor Morton Waring as a three and one-half story Charleston single house with exposed brick. A large portion of the interior remains true to its original build. The exterior marble facade and other interior renovations however were added in the early 1900's when the house was owned by the Heyward and Smith families.
Photographer Charles N. Bayless, funded by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, photographed and recorded the Carolina Lowcountry between 1970 and 1988. The South Carolina Project took place between 1977 and 1979.
