Description:

Sepia toned photograph of the east side of Meeting Street, looking south, toward Broad Street. The Charleston Hotel (200 Meeting Street) is on the left. Two horse-drawn buggies are visible on the dirt street and several pedestrians can be seen on the sidewalks - note some are in motion. The first of the two steeples is that of the Circular Congregational Church (destroyed in the fire of 1861) and the second steeple is of St. Michael's Episcopal Church. The numbers 1, 2, and 3 are handwritten on the bottom and correspond to numbers on the reverse identifying the Charleston Hotel, "The Round Church", and St. Michael's Church. Also handwritten on reverse reads, "Prior to fire of 1861".
