Description:

Photograph of exhibits on the first floor galleries at the old Charleston Museum. Jacobs shot the image from the second floor and focused on the empty back wall before Civil Works Administration (CWA) workers began stretching a roll of a blank canvas in four sections making an area measuring 76 by 20 feet. This space was created to accommodate a large mural of the city, including cartouches to each side illustrating historic events.

On January 19, CWA funded artists under the supervision of Robert N.S. Whitelaw, started to outline the large mural in the Museum.
