Description:

One of three herring gull eggs (Larus argentatus smithsonius) collected from Simcoe County (CBE1897 - CBE1899). Pickering noted the eggs had been freshly laid at the time of collection. He also made the following notes regarding the nest and nesting site, "made of dead weeds, grass, and green moss. Placed between the loose stones on a small island in Georgian Bay. Many gulls nesting on same island." Identification was made after observing the parent on the nest. The eggs were later acquired by Ernest Cutts.
