Description:

One of three American herring gull eggs (Larus argentatus smithsonius) collected for R. Pickering from Bruce County by an unknown collector (see CBE1888 - CBE1890). Pickering noted the eggs had been freshly laid at the time of collection and the nest was "made of dead weeds, grass, and moss placed on rocks on small island in Lake Huron." Identification was made when gulls were being observed nearby. The eggs were later acquired by Ernest Cutts.
