Description:

One of three American herring gull eggs (Larus argentatus smithsonius) collected for R. Pickering from Simcoe County (see CBE1894 - CBE1896). Pickering noted the eggs had been freshly laid at the time of collection. Per his slip, the nest was, "made of dead weeds, grass, and green moss. Placed between the loose stones on a small island in Georgian Bay. Many gulls nesting on same island." Identification was made after observing the parent on the nest. The eggs were later acquired by Ernest Cutts.
