Description:

One of three American herring gull eggs (Larus argentatus smithsonius) collected for R. Pickering from Bruce County by an unknown collector (see CBE1891 - CBE1893). Pickering's slip noted the eggs had been freshly laid at the time of collection and that the nest was "made of dead weeds, grass, and moss placed on rocks on small island in Lake Huron." Their identification was made due to herring gulls being observed nearby. The eggs were later acquired by Ernest Cutts.
