Description:

Black and white photograph of King Street looking south from the vicinity of Wentworth Street. Hughes set his camera up on the east side of the street to get the street scene of automobiles lined up in traffice, bicyclists and pedestrians. The book store of Legerton & Co., Inc., (263 King), is visible directly to the right with the Frierson Drug Store next to it at 261 King. The building with the pedimented portico in the middle of the block is the old Carrington-Thomas Building (253 King) that housed the South Carolina National Bank at the time the photograph was taken. The Siegling Music House (243 King) is just visible in distance.
