Joseph Manigault House Drawing Room Door

Description:

Pastel pencil drawing on paper illustrating the door leading from the drawing room to the hallway in the Joseph Manigault House. The greatest attention is paid to the scrolled leaf crown mouldings, egg and dart patterned wainscoting and dentil crown moulded door frame, each defined by delicate pencil lines. The green rug and artwork are given minimal detail.
Smith uses the full spectrum of color, blending warm and cool hues, which causes the house to appear enlivened, despite the lack of human presence, rather than quiet or soothing.
