Description:
Watercolor on paper illustrating five studies of a mushroom species. Jervey noted along the bottom, "Hygrophorus Flugiscens [fuligineus?]. Edible. Found at North Charleston Dec. 16th 1916" and wrote on reverse, "The Hygrophorus Family are found in winter time from 1st of Dec. to Feb. in Asheville N.C. I gathered baskets-full ([?] [?]) found under Larch trees & Fir trees that protected them from extreme cold. The ones found around Ashevillle have a more sooty color."
