Bayless shot the image during the archaeological dig conducted by Museum archaeologist, Elaine Herold and focused on the bricked in arch (lower center) built to support the house over the well. Photographer's handwritten notation on reverse, "Heyward-Washington House, Kitchen, Basement, Brick Arch in South Wall."
