Photograph taken from the east bedroom showing the second floor staircase where enslaved people once lived and labored at 87 Church Street. Bayless took the image during an archaeological dig conducted by Museum archaeologist, Elaine Herold. Photographer's handwritten notation on reverse, "Heyward-Washington House, Kitchen, Second Floor. Stair detail thru East Bed Room door to Hall."
