Gavia stellata, Loon egg
Description:
One of two red-throated loon (Gavia stellata) eggs collected from Hopper Bay in the northwestern district of Alaska by W. Stribling (see CBE1815-CBE1816). Stribling noted the eggs had been freshly laid at the point of collection and described the nest as a "nest near the water's edge of a small inland lake about 2 mi = 3.22km from the village. A large mass of wet decayed vegetation formed the nest structure." Later acquired by Ernest Cutts.
