Gavia stellata, Loon egg

Description:

One of two red-throated loon (Gavia stellata) eggs collected from Hopper Bay in the northwestern district of Alaska by W. Stribling (see CBE1817-CBE1818). Stribling noted the eggs had been freshly laid at the point of collection and described the nest as a "a wet mass of decayed vegetation on small piece of tundra projecting into lake's edge." Later acquired by Ermest Cutts.
