Photograph of the Fireproof Building (100 Meeting Street) when it operated as the County Records Building, now the South Carolina Historical Society. Paine shot the the image from Washington Square Park with various people and children seated on park benches and grass. Note the William Pitt statue in the center. Photographer's notation on reverse, "Fireproof Bldg. (County Records) Chas. S.C. 1822, designed by Robert Mills. The first "fire proof" one in America. Mills also did The Treasury Bldg. and Washington Monument, D.C. Photo 1934 by M.B. Paine."
