Description:

Watercolor on ivory study of an eye, eyebrow and cheekbone rendered in miniature. The ivory square is glued to a rectangular piece of backing paper.
Meant to aid an artist in developing their style in painting a miniature portrait, these studies of human facial features would have been copied directly from a student guide. Although research is ongoing, it is thought that Louisa C. Strobel is the artist and painted this eye as practice to further develop her realistic style for her miniature portraits.
