Photograph showing the damage from the earthquake that occurred on August 31, 1886 to the west side of the residence of James N. and Eliza Robson located at 200 Coming Street. James and Eliza lost their eldest son in the earthquake. Handwritten at the bottom reads, "Charleston Earthquake View. - Residence of Mr. J.N. Robson, whose eldest son was killed" and handwritten on reverse reads, "House in which young Mr. Robson was killed. Two young ladies were buried in the ruins were rescued. Coming near Cannon. (132)" The 1886 Charleston City Directory lists James N. Robson at 200 Coming Street. Possibly from "Cook's Earthquake Views, No.132, residence of J.N. Robson, from west."

George LaGrange Cook was a well-known photographer in Charleston who photographed the destruction of the 1886 earthquake soon after it happened, producing a series of images titled "Cook's Earthquake Views of Charleston and Vicinity" that could be purchased as souvenirs.
