Cepphus grylle, Auk egg

Description:

One of two black guillemot (Cepphus grylle arcticus) eggs collected from the town of Husavik in northern Iceland (see CBE1829-CBE1830). Collector W. F. Palsson noted incubation had started by the time of collection and the egg was in a "hole amongst loose boulders under a sea cliff. The eggs were resting on fine sand." Later acquired by Ernest Cutts.
