Cepphus columba, Auk egg

Description:

One of two pigeon guillemot (Cepphus columba columba) eggs (CBE1835-CBE1836) collected from Pecho Ranch, California in May 1945. These eggs were originally collected by L.T. Stevens who noted that incubation of the egg had been ongoing for one week. Stevens also noted the eggs had been found in a "big cave, thirty feet back, six feet up from bottom of cave, in pot hole" and that "no nesting materials at all" were present at the nesting site. The parent had been observed flying from the cavity, solidifying the identification. Later acquired by Ernest Cutts.
