Description:
Oil on canvas portrait of Carolina Lafayette Seabrook (Hopkinson) by Thomas Sully. Sully painted his subject posed with her left shoulder slightly lower than the right. Her brunette hair is pulled back tightly and parted in the center and she is dressed in brown and yellow drape.
The duaghter of William Seabrook (1772-1836) of Edisto Island, South Carolina, Carolina was named by the Marquis de Lafayette who was visiting at the time of her birth in 1825.
