Description:
Sharp's breech-loading percussion rifle, model 1859, .52 caliber with a pellet priming mechanism. The barrel has a lug on the bottom for attaching a bayonette. The gun is iron mounted with three bands, a sling swivel at the middle band and a sling swivel at the butt. A rear elevating sight is attached at the top of the barrel and the stock is walnut with the lever center mounted on a hinge. Reportedly captured during the Federal assault on Battery Wagner in 1863 it is on exhibit in the Civil War Gallery.
