Description:

This .60 cal. breech-loading, flintlock carbine is currently on exhibit in the Armory at the Museum. Designed with a walnut stock and steel furniture it is further equipped with a triangular cross section bayonette which fits into a recess under the forend of the stock. An iron spur protrudes from the bottom of the stock just in front of the triggerguard that, when pressed forward, exposes the breech to fascilitate loading. This is the first breech loading longarm accepted and issued by the United States Army.
