Description:

Black and white photograph of Charleston's rooftops over Washington Square Park looking toward the Cooper River. The Washington Light Infantry Memorial can just be seen to the bottom left with St. Philip's Church (146 Church Street) and the United States Customs House (200 East Bay Street) visible in the far distance. The courtyard of the Confederate Home and College (62 Broad Street) is clearly visible to the right. Paine shot the image from the St. Michael's Steeple (71 Broad Street).
