Description:

Photograph looking north through Bedon's Alley toward Elliott Street. The buildings on this side of the street were originally constructed as outbuildings for the large homes on East Bay (Rainbow Row). A man can be seen cutting wood in front of the outbuilding (8 and 10 Bedon's Alley) for the Deas-Tunno House (89 East Bay Street) while three small children stand in the background. Paine noted on reverse, "Bedons Alley An Old Buck Sawyer Chas S.C. Photo by M.B. Paine Charleston, S.C."

The term "buck sawyer" or "buck logger" is used to describe a person who specializes in cutting or sawing logs into a standard size.
