Description:

One of seven redhead (Aythya americana) eggs collected from Sweetwater Lake, North Dakota by W.A. Bowman in June 1899 (see CBE797 - CBE807). Bowman noted the nest was "in cave of rushes about 5 yards from shore, nest about 12 in high, composed of broken reeds, etc. Water 3 feet deep." The eggs had been freshly laid at the time of collection. This egg, along with the rest of the clutch, was later acquired by Alexander Sprunt, Jr.

Original set mark: 5/7, Bowman collection.
